Increase in Citywide Conventions in 2016 to Generate Significant Revenue for Los Angeles Convention Center and City of Los Angeles

Apr 19, 2016

LOS ANGELES, CA (April 19, 2016) – The Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC), professionally managed by AEG Facilities, reported a successful first quarter of 2016, with numerous highly attended Citywide Conventions and an overall increase of over 30% in Citywide Conventions booked for Calendar Year (CY) 2016 compared to the prior year.

Citywide Conventions held thus far include the Mary Kay Annual Leadership Conference, American Heart Association’s International Stroke Conference, the Association of Writers and Writing Programs Annual Conference, and WonderCon among others. The Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board (LATCB) projects that total Citywide Convention attendance will rise by 22% in 2016, which is critical for stimulating L.A.’s economy. Convention attendees generate significant income and tax revenues for the City through direct and indirect spending on travel, lodging, meals, and entertainment, which in turn sustains thousands of local jobs and supports the economy.

“Upon assuming management of the LACC, one of our primary goals was to develop a synergistic partnership between the LATCB and AEG sales teams.  This partnership continues to evolve as the teams work in tandem to develop business for the Convention Center while driving revenue to the City of Los Angeles; we are seeing these results materialize in 2016 and are anticipating a 38% (over $2 million dollars) increase in rental revenue from Citywide Conventions this year,” commented Brad Gessner, AEG Facilities Senior Vice President and General Manager for the Los Angeles Convention Center.

The LACC’s ideal positioning as part of AEG’s LA Live campus in the heart of booming Downtown Los Angeles lends the facility and surrounding City to being better equipped than ever before to welcome large-scale events.

“Our goal is to attract the industry’s top events to Los Angeles and propel the LACC to consistently being recognized as a leading destination for meetings, conventions, and events. We’re very pleased with the 26% projected Economic Impact growth from Citywide Conventions in 2016 and we look forward to a very busy and rewarding year for the City and the LACC,” noted Ernest Wooden Jr., President and CEO of the Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board (LATCB).
