Los Angeles Convention Center Achieves Recertification of LEED Gold Level for Fourth Time
Oct 8, 2024
October 8, 2024 (Los Angeles, CA) - The Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC), owned by the City of Los Angeles and managed by ASM Global, proudly announces that it has achieved LEED v4.1 O+M: Existing Buildings Gold certification for a fourth consecutive time. This milestone underscores LACC’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and highlights its role as a leader in environmental stewardship within the convention and events industry. Through design, construction and operations practices that improve environmental and human health, LEED-certified buildings are helping to make the world more sustainable.
“Achieving LEED Gold recertification under the rigorous v4.1 guidelines is a testament to the Los Angeles Convention Center’s continued leadership in advancing sustainable building operations,” said Kimberly Weedmark, General Manager of the Los Angeles Convention Center. “Our commitment to sustainability continues to define our role as a leading destination for events that prioritize environmental responsibility.”
The LACC has maintained its LEED Gold Level certification status since 2010, consistently demonstrating leadership in sustainability through significant investments in energy conservation, water efficiency, waste reduction, and enhanced indoor environmental quality. The achievement of the v4.1 Gold recertification represents the center’s latest effort to exceed the industry’s evolving green building standards and further minimize its environmental impact.
“Congratulations to the Los Angeles Convention Center for continuing to elevate the environmental practices that have once again earned the LEED Gold recertification. The values and goals inherent in the LEED program match with goals set forth by the City of Los Angeles and we applaud the LACC’s team for weaving these components into the fabric of their operation” said Doane Liu, Chief Tourism Officer and Executive Director of the Los Angeles City Tourism Department.
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the most widely used green building rating system in the world, and the Gold certification places LACC among a select group of facilities dedicated to driving positive environmental change. The LACC’s achievement of LEED Gold certification through the v4.1 framework further solidifies its position as a sustainability showcase, illustrating the center’s commitment to responsible resource management, energy efficiency, and overall operational excellence.
“LEED certification is the ultimate recognition of global green building leadership, signaling that a space has undergone rigorous third-party verification and meets the highest green building standards,” said Peter Templeton, president and CEO, USGBC. “The success of LEED is due to the partnership and support of those committed to advancing green building and sustainability. Each new LEED certification brings us one step closer to revolutionizing the spaces where we live, learn, work and play.”
Lindsay Arell, Chief Sustainability Officer of ASM Global added, "Achieving LEED Gold recertification is a testament to the Los Angeles Convention Center's unwavering commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. This milestone highlights the dedication of ASM Global to integrating sustainable practices across all our venues. We are incredibly proud of the LACC team for their leadership in creating a greener future, continuously raising the bar for excellence in sustainable operations, and setting an example for venues worldwide. At ASM Global, we remain committed to advancing our sustainability efforts and creating lasting positive impacts for our communities and the environment."
